Red face American Heritage Tartan & World Cup Football

I left work a little early today to watch the USA v. Ghana World Cup match. Unfortunately I missed watching a great deal of it and had to listen on the radio. I ended up having to take my son back to his mothers house... At any rate, I put on my new American Heritage USA Kilts 8-yard wool (which my son did not approve of) in honor of our team and headed out. When we arrived my daughter greeted me and upon seeing the kilt she was instantly embarrassed. She ran back inside after a quick hug. Neither one of them had seen me in a kilt... American kids... Oh well...

I also made a quick stop at the corner store to pick up an anniversary card, where I got a couple of approving looks from a couple of ladies and an approving comment from the cashier, along with a question regarding the occasion. Last, I made a stop at a spa to pick up a gift certificate where I got a huge smile from the receptionist and one customer in the waiting area.

Being new to wearng the kilt, these quick outings really help build and reinforce the confidence it took to kilt up in the first place. As for the kids... They're teenagers, and nothing I do will be cool no matter what I do. I'm not concerned about it, and they'll survive having a kilted father.

I was able to see the game winning goal and the final minutes of the hard fought win for the US. It's been a great night! Sorry there are no pictures

The American Heritage tartan is undoubtedly a far, FAR better choice than the uniforms were, I imagine... :-)

I'm surprised no one saw the similarities before this got off the design room floor.

Agreed on the uniforms. That away kit is bad. The home white kit is much better. Then again... anything would be better. I just hope to see all of Sunday's match against Portugal... I plan to kilt up again, and maybe show it off at a local sports bar or pub.

I guess there's nothing more American than pizza. Oh wait. Actually, it looks French without the pizza and Rocket pops context.

...Not that there's anything wrong with Rocket Pops, right? I mean, I grew up on those things! Ahhh, memories of being 8 yrs old...

Celtophile, that is exactly what I said to my wife, when she sat down and asked ... so is the US wearing the white uniforms? Even if the blue was a little darker it would go a long way to looking more like the red-white and blue.

CDNSushi... I do like the rocket comparison. Perhaps that was the inspiration.

I'm afraid I was cheering for Ghana, however. So can't say I share the joy of the win; but a good game.

Call me a cynic but I simply say "Follow The Money", I see a Nike swoosh on those jerseys and I figure there was a check written with a whole lot of zeroes.
At least it has not evolved into the skating billboards of some Euro hockey teams.

In a thread which was talking about 'improper' use of the USA flag I posted a photo of the US National kit which has a shirt with red & white hoops and blue shorts. I like that uniform far better.

I also like the shirt with the diagonal stripe from the last World Cup (white with grey stripe, dark blue with white stripe, red with white stripe) which harkened back to early US National kits.

(ya just can't get enough of Clint Dempsey! What a coup for Seattle!)

Here's the diagonal stripe in 1950

Yes this new kit doesn't do anything for me. Actually the current Mexico and Germany kits are ugly too. Mexico had a beautiful black shirt at the last World Cup. Viva Mexico! Four points! A draw with Brazil IN BRAZIL!

About kits, I wear kilts when supporting Scotland Rugby at the USA Sevens but I wouldn't wear kilts to support USA.
