My inspiration was very simple. I saw the movie "The 51st State" with Samuel L Jackson and Robert Carlyle. Sam Jackson's character wears a kilt throughout the movie. This was the first time it ever occurred to me that someone with no Scottish heritage could wear a kilt (and make it look damn good too).
It was several years after seeing this movie that I became serious about getting a kilt. I did a massive amount of research online, specifically about tartan, as I didn't want to offend anyones clan by wearing their family tartan. It was during this research that I came across this forum, which quickly became my go-to place for answering any questions I had. Eventually, I bought my first kilt and got over the nerves of wearing it in public. I am now totally hooked.
I'm ordering my 3rd and 4th ones on Tuesday and have already earmarked several others I will be getting in the future. I love the sense of individual style that wearing a kilt gives me, as well as it being a great ice-breaker/conversation starter. And it's true what they say; women really do love a man in a kilt (I don't think I've ever had so many women come over and start a conversation with me in my life!)![]()
