The Velcro is fine. A waistband produces a linear "pull" rather than a lifting pull. I've never experienced any looseness at all. USAKilts Casuals come with three belt loops and SportKilts can be ordered with (an optional) five loops. But you won't need them.

Kinda curious why the Mountain Hardwear ElKommando Kilt hasn't been brought up in this thread yet? It is lighter than the 5.11 and cleans and drys so much faster than cotton cloth. has a belt built in for security and even a modesty snap through the legs if need be. They can usually be found at several on-line vendors. Campmor has all the sizes right now.

Try jhiggins poly kilts. They run around 100$, but I used one in a mudrun that had over 30 obstacles. Little rinsing, throw it in the washer, came out like it was brand new.

Like I mentioned over on another forum, I'd vote for Sport Kilt, and don't forget, that they're running that 15% off sale right now (until July 4th).

And if you miss that - sign up for their email list (Sport Kilt Brigade) and they send you a discount code. I believe that is good any time.

Make an X-Kilt. 10-13 hours of work and $20 worth of materials and you're set.

I had no idea what an x-kilt was till now. Thanks Alan, and Google. young kit man: I would not call these mud runs military associated. You really can't compare the two. It's totally different leagues.
