Yup blu, I have and you really don't need to use really stiff heavy leather. With stiff leather a sewing awl is a good tool unless you prefer to lace it together. Another option is cut the parts and take them to a shoe repair or leather shop and have them sewed by machine. A relatively light weight latigo leather would be good for a hunting sporran. I like latigo because it's pretty weather resistant stuff being oil tanned.
