I do think that you need to match the formality of the event. If this is a daytime wedding I would wear the charcoal tweed with the MacLean Hunting tartan. Take a look at the 1 kilt 10 looks, any of my looks from 6-8 are what I mean. Again finding out the formality of the wedding would be the first step.

I did find out that its a afternoon wedding with dinner in evening. The tweed will fit here.
Depend on the level of formality I can adjust the jacket/vest combo.

I am not worried about out blinging the bride. She knows Im a kiltie & there will be pipers.
Determining formally of dress is kind of hard here. Dressing up for most is black jeans, white shirt & black leather vest. Casual dress means you can wear your work clothes.

Seems you've already answered your own question, but unless it's an evening wedding I'd always vote for the charcoal. Black is only for evening/night, no matter if you're kilting or trousered.

In THCD, the black barathea silver button Argyll, worn with a long neck tie, is suitable for formal daywear aka morning dress.

Totally agree, unless it's a morning coat affair then wear the tweed.

Sorry, knotty. My reply was to Andrew Breecher who suggested that black jackets should only be worn at night. I was pointing out that in the world of TCHD, that just isn't true. In your case, however, I'm still saying stick with tweed.

Generally speaking, black is best for evening wear and funerals. Midnight blue is far more interesting than black anyway and under artificial light it's generally appears blacker than black.

Grizzly did you see this? He already answered the question as to formality which is why I stick with my recommendation of wearing the tweed.
