Jordan, there is no "closing date" as such. I have been working on this on and off for over a year. Cost, and family commitments, primarily the recent arrival of the first Grandchild, Isla Madelyn, have diverted my energies somewhat.

Neither is this (so far) a bulk order, per se. I am gauging interest at the moment. All orders should be made directly with Robin.

Costs are £35 per meter single width, and £45 per meter double width. There are no additional set up or custom dying charges. This is included. I think you will find this to be a very reasonable price.

Personally, I am ordering double width in a predominantly unfinished state in order to retain the hard tartan feel/hand of the original. Others may chose to finish theirs as they see fit.

Why don't you join us? I take it you have MacDuff links?

    Cheers,
    Orionson

I wove a length of this in 2001 matched to the original shades for Bob Martin (pictured). I know he later sold it to someone in the US but have no idea where it is now. It gives those interested an idea of what they will be getting albeit not handwoven.

Wow, thanks for posting these new pics of your work, Figheadair! Very nice, indeed. I wonder, might you have any other photos of your weave of this MacDuff Tartan? Some from the front, perhaps? Or, of the cloth itself?

I invite you to peruse this thread for a rare opportunity to own a significant aspect of our history.

Just to let you all know that I am the 'other member of the rabble' that John refers to.

After much thought, and with the great aid of X-Marks, I came to the conclusion a couple of months ago that what I really wanted was a MacDuff kilt, as both my grandmother and great-grandmother were Duffs. They were two of the few family members still alive when I was a child and I have fond memories of them.

I had also decided that I wanted some sort of 'ancient' or 'muted' colour palette, so when I followed John's link I knew immediately that I had to be a part of this unique opportunity. I've had fun all weekend thinking what I might like to do, but I suspect I need to be realistic and settle for an 8 yard knife pleated kilt, and a matching bias-cut waistcoat. It did strike me that maybe Artificer needs to be given a call too...

If you do decide to join in, let me know as I'm thinking it would be possible to get two kilts from a length of double width cloth and avoid the seam at the back, but only if we were to co-ordinate the purchase.

That sounds like a brilliant idea, gentlemen. This is beginning to shape up into being a rather excellent adventure. May I suggest that we consider all meeting up in Selkirk at Robin's Mill for the day of the actual weave? I will likely go down before hand to have a look at the colour dying process as well.

There are plenty of B&B's in the area and a trip to Abbotsford (a few short miles away) might just cap off the "event". (Spouses' and/or partners more than welcome - might sweeten the pill of the cost?) Abbotsford just seems appropriate to me somehow, given Sir Walter's contribution to what we all love so much. That "our" MacDuff pre-dates his efforts is icing on the cake.

Unfortunately gents, I'm going to have to say im out. I like the tartan and the history but cant quite justify the cost without much connection.
