It was a longtime goal of mine to put together a Black Watch kit, ever since I saw them perform here in 1976. I've seen them every tour since!

The kit above would have been worn with the khaki (drab) serge wool Service Dress tunic 1908-1953, indeed from 1914-1953 it was the dressiest kit available. It was also worn with the Battle Dress jacket.

Or, pop a pith helmet on my head, and I'm in the same kit as the piper seen here

For whatever reason I got obsessed with the bagpipes and with the Highland regiments back in the 1970s and my interest has never waned.

For starters here are the books I have sitting right here at the moment:

The Scottish Regiments by Ted Nevill

The Scottish Soldier by Stephen Wood

The 51st Highland Division At War by Roderick Grant

The Uniforms & History of the Scottish Regiments by R Money Barnes

Then there are the Osprey Publications books. The texts are very informative; the illustrations vary from excellent to ludicrous.

Pity you didn't have older tour magazines.

My father toured Canada and USA for three+ months with the Pipes & Drums of the 1st Bn. Scots Guards in 1958.

I'd love to have seen the tour magazine/pamphlet....if there was one.

I have some photos of the Scots Guards pipers in plain clothes as well from their 1958 tour but that's about it. I recall being told that they did performances in over 100 cities in Canada and USA during the three months.
