I was thinking of this just the other day and found this picture: from a tumbler blog.

It brought up other questions, but that is another thread.

That is a very smart look. I have that same jacket but I also have the matching waist coat too. His tartan looks like Shaw but not for sure from the pic, which is great as we are half Shaw too. I will have to investigate this further now

I can't say that I have ever seen trews/tartan trousers with a fringe, before!

Jock that was done for Ralph Lauren a couple of years ago, I think the fact that it was for a fashion designer and he wanted the fringe to be evocative of the fringe on a kilt.

MacKenzie Frain are still one of the few tailors who still do Military Trews in the true traditional style with a Fish Tail Back. The cost is also quite reasonable, especially if you provide your own cloth. I will surely be going to them with 2 meters double width for Trews in the c. 1800 MacDuff. £199. if you don't provide the cloth, £100 if you do.

He and Tommy Hilfiger have been mining classic Scottish fashion for years.

I've noticed when I've attended my Border clan (family) Gathering in Scotland, the Scots tend to wear trews or trousers, while the non-Scots (Americans, Canadians, and Australians) wear kilts. On a recent visit to my clan chief, we discussed this and we agreed that trews are more popular than the kilt in the Borders.
I'd love to get some trews, but I don't see much opportunity to wear them. At most of our local Scottish Games, everyone expects to see a kilt, not trews.
