I asked my wife about sandals with a casual kilt. showed her, she is fine with it. flip flops. are perfect for the beach or better yet barefoot. I don't see much difference in sandals and flip flops in that context, but sandals would look a bit better off the beach. I have spent a lot of time in Florida and the casual beach wear is eveident all up and down the coast. You can get by with pretty much anything you choose to wear like that. I would not wear sandals or flip flops outside a total casual context though, I dont even do that to walk down the road yet in front of my house. I want the neighbors to get a good impression of the Kilt. But in Florida where your at, I don't see a problem.
Having said all that.. what I get from Mychael's comments is that we don't want to present the Kilt as a costume, so leave the sword image at home. Mychael is right. Warriors we are not so let's not present the kilt in that frame
A canvas kilt sounds too warm though, I would prefer a 100% cotton in that climate, Try a tan Amerikilt, it will be cooler and lighter. Missionaries in hot climates always come back telling us that cotton is the best for high temperature climates.
