Friendly discrimination? Kilt length.

Most of my UKs hit just slightly below mid-knee.

My favorite UK hits slightly below the knee which is great because I wear it when I teach CPR and the extra length keeps my bits covered when I'm crawling around on the floor where people are laying down.

I've recently ordered a tartan kilt (from our Ursa Major) and I went to some trouble to make sure it was the tradition mid-knee length. Since the intent is to have a more traditional look (including sporran and kilt hose), I'm going for a more traditional length.

But I won't be wearing it to teach CPR.

But, on topic, I've got to agree with all of the 'learn the rules before you break them' comments. No rule is unbreakable, but the whole garment is about confidence.

Wowee!! Did I pick a good first thread to post or what. I had no idea it would get this much attention or be so misunderstood. All I wanted to do was make us all wonder why we have accepted every single change in the kilt world EXCEPT length. I stress again more clearly this time I am NOT refering to traditional clan enforced kilt wear, but everyday kilts. I am not scoffing, insulting, poking, feeding, or trying to change traditional kilt wearing.
And I do believe most us here are very open and accepting of change. And by "discriminate" I didn't mean we throw beer bottles at the guy in the short kilt, I was referring to the fact that all of have an idea of what "the right" kilt length is. Either by owning "the right" length, or going by "tradition".

If it's longer than knee length it gets in the way when you run or climb and getting in and out of a car would be an adventure in catching fabric in the door, perhaps dragging it in the road like a forgotten seat belt.

.... cliped...There are some out there that are "too good" or too self-important to be bothered learning about the "proper" (if there truely is such a thing) length to wear the kilt but expect to be admired in spite of their ignorance. They deserve all the scorn they can find. That goes double for the morons that wear their kilts backwards. It all comes down to attitude, I suppose.
