This is disputed by Murray Pittock (The Myth Of The Jacobite Clans, Second Edition, P 73).

One must not forget that not all in the Jacobite Army were Scots. So ok we can bandy figures about all day and split the hair dozens of times and probably end up where we started! Nevertheless the point is still that there is a common misconception that the battle was fought between the Scots and the English and B.P.C. was the "darling" of Scotland.

From my perspective, I see a bit of levity gone awry.

Welcome to the forum, Harper! Read, assess, and keep asking questions. As with any forum, particularly one with members from many different backgrounds and with different perspectives, perceptions, understandings, and knowledge, there will occasionally be some contention. This particular forum has a good set of published guidelines, too, to help mitigate. No matter the reception of this particular post of yours, you'll find that the folks on this forum are friendly, helpful, and full of knowledge.

Agreed. The quoted book is a very interesting read.
