Scot stuff around Albany NY

Even in the states, if ya look long and hard, ya can find Scot stuff. I wanted to get this posted before I have another bottle of this Scotch Ale; it's good stuff!

Oh, I thought you were posting about the Capital District HG in Altamont, not too far from Albany. I went to those games a few years ago to compete on the pipes. I intend to return when I can make plans to also visit Schenectady to trace my McIntyre line.

Nope, just out shopping today. Been looking for this McEwan Scottish Ale, and found it. The shirt was LL Bean, the short bread at a Home Goods store, of all places!

I understand about combining visits for family history. We're doing the same for my side of the family at the Glengarry Games up in SE Ontario next July 31/Aug 1. That is fairly easy for us, and we'll drag the travel trailer up to keep expenses down.

Is that Scotch Ale a wee heavy? I've not had a drink in over 5 years so my memory might be a bit hazy(*) but I don't remember McEwans Scotch Ale.

*) hazy due to the passing of time, not due to a lack of alcohol

It is a bit heavy, but that's why I like it. It's 8% alcohol.

I have never drank much, and am trying to rectify that to a degree. For instance, I won't drink two of these the same day, though I may have a wee dram of Scotch after supper.

The term "wee heavy" is used to describe a type of Scottish ale, a.k.a. 90/- (90 shilling). If it's 8% then it's a wee heavy. I used to drink either heavy (70/-) or export (80/-). Confusingly, wee heavy is stronger than heavy.

I remember that McEwan was more than a "wee heavy". I'd call it "one eye-squinted stout." But the flavor was worth it. I didn't think to nibble a short bread to tame the palate.

Aye, 8% seems a bit high. I don't remember this ale but then again I haven't been drinking in Scottish pubs since the mid 1990s and I wasn't drinking ales that strong. Maybe it was just off my radar.
