David, Your Fermanagh tartan probably would be OK as the average guy in the street sees a tartan kilt and thinks you are from Scotland. The Irish diaspora kilt which is based on Green White and Gold could in the wrong place, cause at best hard comments and even harder fists. Yes we are always close to a settlement. Thats what republicans say. Loyalists would say the opposite. The reality is that a political settlement will not take away the memories of the deaths and distruction, the broken families etc. The scars of these "recent Troubles" will take a long time to heal and some people have still scores to settle. Having said all of that I love where I live and would not exchange it for 'all the tea in china'

Rufus, As with all things only the big events get the news. We are now a minor problem on the world stage. I could say more about the problems we face (Paramilitarys and drugs for example) but I am not going to for we get enough bad press as it is.

Daneel,
Thanks for giving us that insight. I just wish people could just sit down and talk and find out that all is not that different. Of course some of the wounds are really deep and I know that will be a long time in coming. It really is a beautiful land, and it is my hearfelt wish that peace could reign not only there, but the rest of the world as well.

I was thinking about writing to the phone company and asking if I could order a phone directory. If the directories there are like those here in the USA, there would be addresses in the directory.
