Ok Jonathan and others interested, here's two photos of two different types of hangers that I've acquired at IKEA that work with the fold over method of hanging kilts....
I especially like the ones that are the flat bar pinch method on the left photo....

Thank you very much, hawk and Steve for taking all the trouble to reply with pictures. That's kind of you.
Those kilts of Hawk's look cotton. I've got 8 yard, 13 oz wool and they are heavy and bulky. And I love them and want to look after them. I suspect the flat bar pinch would not be wide enough to get three layers of wool kilt.
I think I'll try having two of these per kilt from dear old John Lewis. (Americans won't know John Lewis which has a reputation for being very reliable but not very sexy. The staff are unfailingly helpful. There's branches in Aberdeen, Glasgow and Edinburgh. Their motto is "never knowingly undersold".)

PS - they are £9 for a pack of 3, which is hardly extravagant.

Look closely, that is two I used with the fold over method on the pinch ones and I use the same set up with the wool/heavier ones I have. It works great Jonathan....

Thanks, Hawk. (And wildcat, but I don't know where to find hangers with 4 clips in the UK.)

Really folks, its not the hangers. It really does not matter what type or style of hanger you use.
Buy exclusive, expensive, kilt hangers or get them for free at your local department store. Look in the back of your closet for those pants hangers left over from when you owned pants.
The whole idea here is to keep your kilts off the floor and wrinkle free. To support the expensive wool Tartan you treasure so much so it is not distorted by its own weight.
All I can do is offer a way of hanging a kilt that has worked well for me for the past 10 years on literally thousands of kilts. It's simple and does not need to cost much to do.
But please feel free to ignore it. I can't stop anyone from buying, sight unseen, some hanger priced at $20.00 apiece just because someone is advertising it as a special kilt hanger.
But you will never see a special kilt hanger offered on my website. If you ever walk into my shop you will see that every kilt is hung exactly as I have described. My off the rack P/V kilts, my solid colored cargo kilts, my rental kilts, my custom made hand-sewn tanks weighing over 4 pounds.
If you ever buy a kilt from me you will get the exact same, free advice on how to hang your new kilt. How you hang your kilt when you get home is totally up to you.

If I am honest the last few years I have just been getting a sturdy wooden hanger and 2 plastic clamps from Harbour Freight. That clamps cost less then a dollar each and I have had nary a problem with it.
