Absolutely Bear. There's too much being turned into gender issues that have nothing to do with gender at all and civilized behavior is one of them.

People get respect from me right from the start. Only those that ask for it get my bad side. I don't care if it's a man or woman. Good manners are not a gender issue.
Too many people nowadays demand respect, but fall short of earning it.
I don't care what age, sex, nationality, or sexual preference you are, I was brought up to believe you have to earn what you want and work to keep it.

I think that what we are talking of here is the classic "fight or flight" syndrome.
When others place us in a disadvanaged situation we react from somewhere deep inside. If we are prepared we can respond with kindness; this however, is not always the situation.

I agree with Graham. You can catch bees with Honey but none with Vinegar.
Heaping coals of fire upon their head" will either melt them to repentance or be their judgment. While I want to lash out sometimes, The snooty woman did not really cause me to react in this case because I am comfortable with my masculinity and who and what I am in Christ. It's her problem. A vicious response won;t win over anybody to the "Kilted Side" or for anything else".
Choosing a kind response is a manly thing to do.

I have issues with that.
I can be easily provoked.
I have a tongue like an axe.
I try to be friendly. Still working on the issue.

i requested once to one of those lassies, that she might have mens garment, but not our gentleness. she said something and heard telling myself, that she especially should be glad that men don t tell her what she looked like.
i was was not far away from the border of gentliness...
