Hi Rob, a warm Scottish welcome from middle England. Although I have both black and brown kilt belts to match with shoes and sporran I very rarely wear them on a casual basis. I may wear a normal belt to carry a camera or bum bag, especially around the house with no sporran, when I go out it is most usually just sporran and kilt. In this part of the world if it is warm, I'll be wearing a lose t-shirt and if it is colder a jumper of some sort, both of which would conceal a belt, so there is no point. I have been known to wear a kilt belt with open waistcoat and shirt, but if the waistcoat is buttoned, again there is little point in a belt unless it is needed to hold your kilt up. If that is the case your kilt is too big.
If you are going to do it, do it in a kilt!
