    Right on JohnAllen!

I have always been taught to layer in the winter time. The first layer was always a synthetic or even a nylon layer. This seemed to let the moisture pass through it and the next layer either absorbed it to some degree or continued passing it along.

I am prepared for the ribbing I will get after this next statement.

Moving through the Scouting organization as I did I often wore pantyhose as a first layer during winter camping.

Okay let's hear it everyone I am rolling up in to a small ball and I am ready for the jokes.....

Panty hose are no joke. Anyone who does not know that trick never played football in the winter above the Mason-Dixon line.

Hey, I wear Comfilon pantyhose for men during the coldest days in the Va Deer hunting woods. They do make a difference.

As a keen hiker in Tasmania I've bought all kinds of synthetic thermal undergarments.

I have several thermal tee shirts, but find myself moving (back) to woollen underclothes.

My favourite for warmth and comfort is a natural woollen undershirt, it's very long and reaches half way to the bottom of the kilt.

Whether I wear underpants of not, this woollen shirt is really comfy, I plan to buy more before next winter.
So I'm mhe ving away from synthetics - with the exception of poly viscose for kilts

well living in one of the worlds coldest counties I couldn't help thinking about what I wear. Grahams woolen uderwear is a very good Idea.

Anything synthetic starts to smell bad if used on a hike over several days, wool doesn't to the same degree.

When I mountain bike in the snow and Ice over here I use this stuff it works on the old string vest theory. I can't praise it enough.

    I use the Arctic version

A good tip when buying any underwear to use in the cold is to buy it a little too long in the legs and arms. If used a lot constant washing will if you use synthetic cause some shrinkage in the material (Not your meat and two veg)Also buy the top so it covers your backside and crotch. You'll thank me for it Really you will.

Oh! Almost forgot Thumb holes in the arms are great so the shirt doen't ride up the arm leaving exposed wrists

    Be safe in the cold

I haven't yet worn a kilt in really cold waether, but it will not be with the Comfilons. I only wear them under insulayed hunting pants. That's because I spend long hours sitting very quietly and still along side a deer trail. The temperature might be in the teens or lower.
