Hey JerMc,
Here's the deal... you're right. We DON'T offer up the amount of material used for the kilt UNTIL I (or Kelly) make it. Our Traditional model TYPICALLY uses 7 to 9 (or more) yards, depending on the Pattern Repeat and the waist/hip size of the individual. With a waist size of 47 or 48, I can tell you that you'd DEFINITELY fall in the 8 yard "or so" category. Once I do the math (I need the exact measurements and the tartan choice), I can tell you how many yards are going to be in your kilt before I make it.
As an FYI, our Philabeg model usually has between 4 to 6 yards (give or take)... the pleats are about 1.25 to 1.5 inch wide.
I hope this answers your questions, JerMc! If you have any more, feel free to reply or call me at the shop!
