Kilting in the wind and cold

There have been many (at least a few) postings about kilting in the wind and or cold.
So here is one of my solutions to both.
I own five Utilikilts and two SportKilts, one of which is a cotton/wool blend.
When I go out in inclement weather I wear my wool blend SportKilt under my Utilikilt.
I fasten the SportKilt up higher on my waist so it will not show below my UtiliKilt. (don't anyone thinking my slip is showing). I then wrap and snap the UtiliKilt on in the regular fashion in it's regular place.
In the wind the SportKilt might show a bit but that is the chances you take in life.
This keeps me a lot warmer especially on a cold windy day.

Two kilts ot once! that's a novel idea, still, if it works for you.

I still like a thick wool kilt, hard to beat.

The weather here in the North end of the Willamette Valley is pretty mild most of the time. I don't usually have much of a problem with cold as long as I'm active. If I'm setting still outdoors, like for a sporting event, I use a lap robe. If I'm active then my kilt with wool kilt hose (and proper upper body clothing of course) is enough to keep me warm. I suppose wearing an "underkilt" might make sense, but I'm suprised that the Sport Kilt adds that much comfort. The Sport Kilt that I have is made of such light material that I only use it around the house as an alternative to a bath wrap. Are your SK's heavier than mine Robert? Which UK's do you have? I wore my Olive Neotraditional UK and kilt hose to hike around town during our snow storm last winter (for those of you from other areas our definition of "snow storm" is 3" and about 30 degrees).

Brisk! Thank goodness for the stocking hat and the Sorels--couldn't have made it without them.

(I also have a customer who swore he was going skiing in his lined kilt. Haven't seen any pictures, though!)

Jeff, don't worry. We won't keep you chained to the "Modern Kilts" area. This general kilt area's free game, as long as it's general kilt talk.

I don't have any heavy wool kilts so I have to make do.
My SK is a 4yr old red and tan wool and cotton blend. the UKs I quite often wear arethe green twill or the blue denium.

I guess I'm somewhat of a pragmatist. Kilts are wonderful garments and all but where matters of subzero or blizzard conditions are concerned, I'll just wear pants. and horror. If it gets really cold (-20c), I'll even wear lycra ski underwear underneath my pants. (I'm a big sissy and I hate winter!) :x

Great Ice fishing picture. Makes me think that next time I'm out on the ice I'll try to kilt.Did you catch anything? was it freshwater,Or salt

However the last time I was out it was well below
-20c. Like Blu I hate the cold .However we are lucky that the air humidity is so low that -20 can feel warmer than say -2c in England.Having said that we had a cold snap a uear ago that was so cold if you took boiling water and threw it in the air it would turn to snow...Thats cold....

I usually use a Scooter dress when out and not skiing They are warm and have loads of pockets.

Jeff I almost forgot...I liked the lined kilts good Idea

Robert has found a good way to spend even more money on kilts 2 at once :o ...Alright if you have the money .

I love the cold...dinna bother me at all (I'm the guy who runs the AC in hotel rooms at full blast, even in winter -- I'd do it at home, but the wife would have something to say about that! :mrgreen:

The whole purpose of the kilt is to keep cold away from your mid-section -- where all of the organs are -- with a piece of heavy wool tightly wrapped around that area, you do stay warm -- and the knees are mostly bone and cartilidge (sic?), so not much to get cold there.

I have thought about making a pair of wool leggings, a la the French in Canada and Native Americans wore in the 1700's to wear with my kilt at times in the winter -- There is documented evidence that the Black Watch and others did wear these in the French & Indian War.
