Excellent! I wish you all the best of luck in your recreation of another fine old Tartan. The process is exhilarating and great fun.
Please do post more about your MacDonald of Kingsburgh project as it progresses.

The project is a go. Just a short run of medium weight from Dalgliesh at this time. Last opportunity to jump on board.

I can think of one or two Skye folk who don't use this site who might be interested. If you give me some details, single or double width, costs per, timescales etc.. I'll happily pass the info along.
I'll show them the photo of the remnant, but they may ask to see what the full sett might look like. Any ideas?
Have fun with this, the MacDuff is absorbing my Tartan expendables for the foreseeable future, else I may have popped for some myself. It will doubtless be beautiful.

John,
Thanks. Cloth will be meium weight single width, unless of course those loads of interest all of a sudden. Because of the Christmas break I'm not expecting to have this completed until late March.
The sett is substantially differeent to that commercially woven today.

Had the "commercial" version made up. Confused as to how much it will take to sew up a tank...what "medium weight" is in ounces...and if the above is the look of what's going to be woven up. My kin are from Uig, Skye just up the road from Kingsburgh.
Also interested in cost...understand its a special weave....just weight in ounces and cost and yardage to make a kilt...still don't understand how single double translates to yards for a kilt. Thanks for indulging me...am a prospect....

Thanks. It will likely take me the better part of 5-6 days to get this oot an aboot tae the folks. Just so I know whit I'm pitching - are you going to try to capture the beautiful rich colours of the original fragment of cloth in the new weave?
I'll get back to you as soon as I can.
Cheers
PS... Oh, just a thought... would you like me to place a wee blurb in the West Highland Free Press? It comes out on Thursdays and I think the print deadline is Tuesday. I could likely even get them to just publish whatever you wrote up in an article about this special weave for no charge. If you want me to go to their office here in Broadford with the text, I'd be happy to. Just send me a PM with your text. They are always on the look out for interesting stories and I think this will float their boat. Circulation is all over the Skye, the Outer Isles the West Coast and Lochaber - the heart of MacDonald territory.

John,
Yes, the intent is to replicate the shades and sett size of the original. I need to get back to see the sample and match the shades and then will be able to get cracking. Hep with getting this in the WHFP would be fantastic, thank you. I'll try to get into Edinburgh between Christmas and New Year. Details to follow.

Went down to see the original piece today. I'd forgotten just how lovely it is and it's incredible to be able to sit and read the original Lyon In Mourning first hand, a real privilege. I managed to match the colours closely and will post further details shortly.
