Not exactly a poll, but a question-How often are you the only one kilted?
Do you go to gatherings in your kilt where you are the only one? How do you decide when to wear your kilt?
In more or less ascending order, do you
wear the kilt for daily casual wear
wear the kilt for work
wear the kilt for "social occasions" (i.e, out drinking, to parties, etc)
wear the kilt to events- weddings, balls, the opera, the ballet, shows
wear the kilt to funerals
Would you wear the kilt to a meeting at your bank, where you wanted to borrow money, or to a first weekend away to your significant other's parents'?
I referred on another thread to "wearing your hunting clothes to play golf". Please note, I didn't say wearing your golf clothes to go hunting. As nearly as I can tell, there is no practical reason NOT to wear hunting clothes to play golf. However, I almost never wear my kilt to church and I would only wear my kilt to a wedding if I knew of some connection between the wedding party and kilts. The same goes for funerals.
Thanks for your replies.

Events, sometimes to lodge, and the occasional wedding or funeral where the principals involved are Scots and only if it has been requested, thoroughly discussed in advanced and well received.

Wearing to work is flat out, because I have a prescribed uniform which includes slacks.
I ordinarily only wear Highland Dress when called to do so in conjunction with playing the pipes, though since I haven't owned a suit in decades, on those rare occasions which call for more formal dress my Highland Dress is pressed into service. (Got married in the kilt!)
With either scenario I might well find myself the only one kilted.
But I'm not interested in casual kiltwearing, never have been, not sure why, the exceptions being Scottish-themed events, say, a whisky tasting or Highland Games.
With those scenarios I expect many kilted men to be present.

Except when attending a Scottish themed event or the games I am almost always the only one kilted. This would include going to the pub, out for a casual dinner or small informal gatherings of one sort or another. Anytime I want to look a little better than jeans and a tee I am usually in the kilt.

Outside of specifically Scottish, Irish, and other generically Celtic-culture events, I have worn my kilt to scotch-tastings, afternoon teas, and certain holiday celebrations/parties. At most scotch-tastings, I have been made to feel quite comfortable; but at just one, I was clearly the odd-duck, fostering stares from the bar patrons. I was okay with it, just the same, because my girlfriend at the time (now the wife) was alright with it.

As I recall I wore my kilt to 6 events in December. Slightly more than normal for an average month. One was a kilt night at a pub with several friends all kilted. A Christmas concert for the local orchestra where I was the only one kilted. Two family events; one on my wife's side I was the only one kilted, one on my family's side my brother and I were both kilted. A premier for the latest Downton Abbey at a nearby theater, met two other gentlemen there kilted. Our church Christmas dinner, where I was the only one kilted. Pretty typical outside of the five or six Scottish events I attend each year.

Yes, I do wear the kilt for casual wear, but not on a daily basis.
I do not, and can not wear the kilt for work. As a surveyor and construction inspector it just wouldn't be practical.
Yes, I do wear the kilt for "social occasions" (i.e, out drinking, to parties, etc). I wear it out to our local pub on occasion, or out to supper, or when my wife and I are out on the town. I've work the kilt hiking, and at Walt Disney World as well.
I have worn the kilt to events such as balls or galas, but never have worn the kilt to a wedding or a funeral.
Outside of highland games I'm the only one kilted 95% of the time. There are a couple of guys with kilts in town, but they rarely wear them, and a couple of guys I know who have Utili-Kilt style kilts and while one wears his pretty regularly, the other doesn't.

Until the other two men, that are members of the forum, get their kilts on and wear them to where I work, I'm the only one, employee wise. I'm supporting them and encouraging them to do so...... So, right now, it's one to two days a week......

That pretty much describes my experience as well. My church is very supportive of kilt wearing, though I am almost the only person who dons a kilt, though not very often. We do support a mission in Scotland (Buckie) though. Our pastor's son and daughter are seriously into Irish dancing, but they seem to wear their kilts (Hannay tartan) on special occasions only.
I sometimes wear a kilt when I go downtown to conduct business. Comments range from "nice skirt" (to which I reply "thank you") to "Do you play the bagpipes?" or "Love the kilt. What clan is that?" I know some of the history of every clan I "represent", though I state clearly that I am not a member of that clan, except for Douglas the "accepted clan" of our family.

I am almost always the only one kilted. I do not wear the kilt to church, as I believe that the attire for worship should be subdued and somber (Saxon attire does this well) so as not to cause any distraction. I am also not at a station in life where formal events are a consideration. I wear the kilt as daily attire, except at work, where it would most likely be forbidden (my company is small enough where even discussing the matter would have repercussions).
Then again, I am usually the odd one out in Saxon attire, as well... I rarely wear any less than a nice dress shirt and sweater or vest.
