I guess I'm one of the unusual guys for two reasons.

First is that I am a kiltmaker and own a kilt shop. I feel my customers expect, want and deserve to see those in the shop wearing their own product.
And secondly I live in a very kilt friendly town. It is not uncommon to see at least one other kilt about town on any given day.

I wear the kilt everyday. Yes, it is my job but I would do so anyway. It has become a very big part of who I am. I do, and have worn a kilt to every one of the examples given in the first post.

In fact I guess I'm sort of strange in that when I get home from work I change into pants to relax. Usually sweat pants.
There are some who have never seen me not in a kilt, and some would not recognize me at first without the kilt.

If I'm away from Victoria I may get the "Why the kilt?", "Are you a piper?", & "Are you going to some event?" questions, but in town I am just another guy in a kilt.

In more or less ascending order, do you
wear the kilt for daily casual wear
    wear the kilt for work
wear the kilt for "social occasions" (i.e, out drinking, to parties, etc)
wear the kilt to events- weddings, balls, the opera, the ballet, shows
    wear the kilt to funerals

Would you wear the kilt to a meeting at your bank, where you wanted to borrow money, or to a first weekend away to your significant other's parents'?
I'm ALWAYS the only one kilted anywhere I go. The decision is normally based on two factors; weather, and whether or not my washing has dried!
But with regards to the questions above, I don't wear the kilt "casually" (but I've been out of the house without a collared shirt about 3 times in the last year, so some would say I'm never casual). I work for myself now, but did occasionally wear my kilts to work when I had a proper boss, I most often wear the kilt out to social events, and have worn the kilt to the opera, weddings, and the theatre without a second thought (I seem to have lost a lot of Saxon formal wardrobe since I started kilting).
I think that funerals (except for a family member) would be where I draw the line, as a gesture of respect to the family of the departed.
I wouldn't wear a kilt to the bank to ask for money, but was wearing it when I met my ladies parents for the first time (they loved it).

    Cheers,

    Cameron

Thus far, I have only worn my kilt for casual events. I wore it to an antique car show. (The only "strange" reaction was from a very young Amish girl who, obviously, was wondering why a guy was wearing a skirt. Though she never said anything, her facial expression was priceless. LOL). Worn it a few times to the local movies and to the summer pagan festival in Indianapolis. There I was the only tartan kilted person. Several men, however, were in utilikilts. And I did wear it to visit my parents' home. Surprisingly, they did not fall over from shock. And last, I wore it to my employment holiday luncheon, held at a local restaraunt, instead of work. Since I was the earliest arrival, most of the others did not even notice the kilt until we got up for a group picture. Then one of my coworkers nearly had a heart attack as she said: "I did not know you were wearing a kilt!" What made it funnier was that her sister in law lives in Scotland, and, so, she has seen a number of guys wearing kilts. I cracked up laughing.

Now, at 25 degrees below zero wind chill, I think it will be a while before I get to wear the kilt again. Plan on expanding the number of times and places for being kilted come spring.

Hope you all have a geat and safe winter.

Unless I'm with McFarkus OR there's a vote for Scottish Independence….pretty much always.

I only mention the vote business because I was at out local Scottish joint, Duke of Perth, for the event and Jack, one of the owners, and the fella who's the President of the local St. Andrew's Society and I were the only three wearing a kilt….not that it was mandatory or even recommended….but….there we were.

….Steve, I usually get, "Who died?", since they assume that if you're wearing a kilt then you're a piper and, if it isn't St. Patrick's Day, you must be coming or going to play at a funeral.

I get these questions fairly often, the answers in my case being "yes" and "yes"!

Since October 2010, I have been kilted every day. From Utilikilts to USA Casuals to full on formal traditionals depending on the plans for the day. I may see another kilted person out and about every two weeks on average.
The why answer is - "Supreme Comfort." with a big grin.

Pants is only a present tense verb here. I once panted, but it's all cool now.

The answer to all the questions is yes, I have worn a kilt for all those activities and the only recent occasion I have seen another kilt was someone stacking shelves in the local store 2 Xmases ago. Aside from cycling and working on the car I am kilted all the time. As I work from home now that is not a problem, when I was last employed and climbing into people's lofts, the kilt was not appropriate. (It could too easily snag on things and also leaves a little to be desired in the way of knee protection.) Aside from the Bannockburn event last year, even in Scotland and disappointingly also in shops selling kilts, I have not come across another male in a kilt. That would not be the case if it was my shop.

None of the people I know would ever have an issue with me turning up in a kilt to an event. To the best of my knowledge no one who has not previously met me has ever had a problem with it either, but if I don't know them or have any association with them, then it matters not what they think.
If you are going to do it, do it in a kilt!

Since March last year I have been kilted pretty much every day. It is comfortable and suits the climate well. I'm self employed so wear what I like. Nature is my church, so no problem there. It's frowned upon these days to raid and burn churches, so you won't find me in one.
