Kilt Kamp 2015 - who's up for it?

Thanks so much! I see that it says it's a "mirrored" symmetry. I'm guessing that's good? And, if my cousin decides to go with this instead of the traditional MacNaughton, is it something I can get through Freedom Kilts, or do I need to get it from Dalgliesh?

You'd need to get the tartan from someone like Steve, because Dalgliesh only sells wholesale to the trade.

And definitely - a tartan that is symmetric makes it much easier to make a kilt!!

Suzi, if you would drop me a line and let me know which Tartan you would like I would be happy to do some looking around among my sources for you.

If you want the Dress Tartan you mentioned I think it may be available only in 11oz weight and as a special order. I doubt there is any actually sitting on a shelf.

11oz fabric is on the light side for a man's kilt but would be perfect for a ladies skirt made like a kilt.

It's actually a stock weave at Dalgliesh (it's one of their dance tartans), and it is 11 oz. See my post on the previous page:

"The tartan is woven by D C Dalgliesh in 11 oz weight, and you can see the tartan at http://www.dcdalgliesh.co.uk/fabric/603078. Click the "Specifications" tab, and you'll see that the sett size is 17.9 cm, which is 7"."

Glad to hear that even with arthritis in your hands, a kilt is "doable". That's been my only concern. I really want to go to Kilt Lamp in 2016. I'll be headed to Scotland during this year's Kamp, but next year, I'll schedule around it. Maybe I'll even pick up tartan while I'm overseas!i

I assume that 2016 Kilt Kamp will be in Victoria (we've been alternatively left and right coasts). If you intend to pick up tartan in Scotland, be sure to ask Steve or me first about what you intend to buy so that you get the right thing. And realize that having Steve order for you would likely be cheaper than purchasing it yourself retail in Scotland.
