    Gumtree

In my idle searches for kilts on the web I have found Gumtree and it looks like a treasure trove in the UK. In my most recent search, I have found a Macbeth kilt in Dundee with measurements that would fit my frame. My search was ..Gumtree... kilts .. Edinburgh City Centere... 50 miles . I have emailed the owner to see what hoops would have to be negotiated to make a trans Atlantic purchase. He has not responded and might well not due to the involved process.
This is where the questions for the rabble begin:
has anyone bough thru a Gumtree advert before?
Does anyone have any experience that is helpful with this project or future projects.. wiring of funds etc ?
Does anyone live near Dundee who has the time or the interest to help?

I would be happy to repay expenses and even buy a lunch
all help and ideas are appreciated

I have paypal, which seems to be the safest way to send money internationally, but am far to the South - though if the kilt was posted here I could easily then send it on to you - my husband is selling off surplus stock from his electronics business using eBay at the moment, but I am not sure if the super whizzo parcel service he can use includes the whole globe yet, or just Europe.

For what it's worth and your mileage may vary, there are some great bargains to be had on Gumtree, but it does seem to attract more than it's fair share of less than favourable users - or it did 5 years ago, when we used it in the UK to sell a few items and try to buy a few before we migrated down here. My advice would be to make sure you know who you are dealing with, a bricks and mortar address and a landline phone number at least - you can then verify these through the BT (as in British Telecom as was) online phone directory. Then if you can do a deal, pay using Paypal, it simplifies international currency transactions and gives you some protection, should anything go amiss, and most importantly, without having to reveal your banking details to the vendor. Good luck!
    Regards, Sav.
