A dram of one of the "Battle Hill" series of Duncan Taylor bottlings (Longmorn 20) while watching the Cactus Bowl. The malt was both smooth and tasty, though not a remarkable finish. Looks like both I and Oklahoma State are going to be winners tonight.
I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

Hey John, the Dalmore 21 is sherry cask finished. They do not say how long but they do imply that the malt spends a significant amount of time in the sherry casks, so I guess that depends on how somebody defines "significant".

Jeff: Thanks. I could swear that the bottle we emptied (I bought it several years ago) was port finished. But, the only port-finished Dalmore I can find on the web now is way too expensive for my pocket book. So, it probably started out tasting like sherry and ended up with port "finish", so to speak.
John
PS (via the Edit function): I went back and reviewed my tasting notes. The malt under discussion was indeed a port-finished malt, but was a Balvenie 21, not a Dalmore. My mistake. Sorry. I must be getting old. Cancel that. I am old.

After I finished the Glen Moray, I emptied a bottle of Tomintoul 16 into my tenure Tiffany decanter. The next opportunity, I enjoyed a dram. A delicious Speyside!

Last night I watched an episode of "Northern Exposure" in which the preservative property of peaty water was being touted. That's all it took. I repaired to the bar and poured a dram of Bowmore 18 over ice. Excellent for the occasion!, ... and with a peaty finish.
By the way, at the end of the episode Maurice and Joel were passing around a flask of Laphroaig 15. Slainte!
