Ah you would ruin a good kilt doing that, Horses for courses, When i was younger i was pretty set in my ways about what i would and would not wear kilts for, but now age helps

As far as useful for firefighting, I can tell you from experience that wearing a kilt under bunkers is a terrible idea.
