I've bought several things from Scottish Lion and haven't had problems, but then I wasn't asking for anything custom or out of the ordinary, just "cash and carry". I have since found places where the same/similar products were less expensive but then I've found some with prices substantially higher too.
I don't have any experience with their canvas kilt or the Buzz Kidder kilt, but an alternative source would be the Neokilt. I have one of those and it works okay. The material is a bit stiff although it is slowly softening. The front apron has less taper than I would like so it doesn't drape quite right, but I can have somebody fix that. They may well have changed that by now too, I haven't asked. I know they have made some changes in the design since I got mine. Josh was nice enough to work with and when there was a delay getting my kilt he threw in a couple of perks in way of compensation.

I had a pretty bad ecperience with clansman. I won't post the details here though, I've said enough about it already.

Great. Can I ask some questions (since, yes, Buzz doesn't answer his email)?
You say it's in a traditional style. How does it fasten? I only saw one strap/buckle in the photo; is there just the one, or are there two or three (two waist, one hip)?
How specific do they get with measurements? Do they let you specify your own individual length/waist? down to the 1/2 inch, maybe?
Any special care you take in washing/upkeep?
Anything you (or anyone else) can tell me would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry about the bad recommendation. I just now read some of the past threads and am hoping I didn't make a mistake ordering an "in stock" belt/buckle from them and letting my sister order a custom billie skirt.

One strap, velcro on the other side both at the waist. I would have preferred to have all three straps. When I said "not too far from traditional", I meant to contrast it with Utilikilts, etc.)

Waist to the inch. Length defaults to 22 1/2", but you can request other lengths, in 1/2" increments. The site mentions a "10% tapered waist" which works for me.

I had to guess here--the Web site says nothing. What I have done is wash it in the machine cold, then hang to dry. The logic here was that the leather strap would survive the washing (and it did), but I did not want to risk it in the dryer. I think I got that idea somewhere in this forum in reference to some other kilts. I ironed the pleats afterwards, which was actually easier and faster than I thought it would be.

It is definitely canvas--nothing like wool. However I can still get some swirl out of the pleats. I got complemented on it at my Scottish dance group. It is definitely a kilt I can wear under circumstances where I would not risk my Scottish hand-sewn. That is what I wanted.
