If I saw someone wearing that, I'd probably assume that they had both Irish and Scottish connections.

First let me say, Well met jeepel. I was born in the 1950s and wore the fashion combos in the 60's and 70's that my "hip forward thinking" grandson wouldn't dream of putting on. Unless you are coming up with a contrast of orange/red paisley tie along with a kilt that has a tartan of (scarlet, chocolate, lime green and grey) that is fashioned to look like lightening bolts instead of pleated to the sett or stripe... well I expect you get my drift man. I'll echo our moderator, you belong to both family connections and should wear both with pride. Welcome from Oxford, MS.

Going back to the old days, linen shirts dyed with saffron were worn both in Ireland and in the Highlands, so a "saffron kilt" (a modern creation) doesn't, to me, seem to have anything uniquely Irish about it, taking the long view.

More in line with the origins of the various things would be to wear an ordinary tartan kilt, with a yellowish shirt.

Interesting that the recent boom in "Irish tartans" is actually a return to the origins of the things.
