The Moy Hall Plaid - A good day's research
After some 30 years of trying to reconstruct the sett of the so called Moy Hall Plaid from various snippets and references, today I managed to get to see the largest surviving fragment, which is still at Moy Hall. It confirmed my view that earlier reconstructions by the likes of Jamie Scarlett were flawed. Now I will be able to complete my paper discussing the various fragments, several of which are later copies, of this Culloden era tartan that has a good claim to have been used by Prince Charles Edward.

This is particularly interesting to me. I would love to read your paper when it's finished, if that would be possible.

It will be up on my website once completed. If I may, why the particular interest?

Of particular interest to me, too, of course. I assumed you had seen and handled it at some time in the past.

Never managed to get into Moy Hall before today. However, I have had my hands on/access over a dozen other fragments, none as big, and some of them later copies despite having been sold as the real thing at auction in recent years for ridiculous prices.

I understand that, but the Moy connection is intriguing to me.

Hopefully not too long as I've had the framework written for some time but keep adding to it every time I find something new. However, this really is the key fragment so I hope to have it completed in the next month or so, perhaps sooner, although I do have two other papers in draft too and which I'd like to get finished first.

It's a fascinating story with a number of interesting twists. What is certain, well as certain as anything that long ago can be, is that the original plaid was left at Moy by PCE and so is one of the few pieces allegedly associated with him that actual was.
