Yes indeed! It's shocking, really, to see the difference between The Royal Mile back in the 1980s (when it consisted of legitimate Scottish Highland Dress Outfitters and pipemakers) and today (full of shops selling Pakistani tat).
Last time I was there (2007) there were still two or three legitimate shops.
While our visit to Scotland last year was wonderful, the Royal Mile was hardly the highlight. It reminded me of Banff Avenue, to the West in our wonderful National Park - filled with tacky souvenir shops, surrounded by immense natural beauty.
