I use the belt loops on mine otherwise the belt rides up at the back when I'm seated. Others mileage may vary...

That's what happened to me as I gave it a try by using the belt outside of the straps. It kept riding up as I walked around too. Back to the belt straps for me then.

New here so a simple puzzling question for me. If the loops are not made for a wide belt then why are they made so wide?
Smaller loops would easily hold your sporran belt or chain.

Before I joined this website I had never heard of kilts having belt loops, or loops of any kind.

    Just saying.

Not on local kilts, but now that I know that they exist I have seen the occasional visitors kilt with them. I can't say that I spend much time looking for them though. Say I was stood behind a kilted visitor in a shopping payout line in the summer, then I might notice.

For some of us, a belt is not just for decaration. I lost weight between I ordered my kilt and when I received it. Without my belt, the kilt would not stay up. LOL
