Yeah, I might just have to tell a few of my friends about this.
Very cool to see veterans on here. I have the utmost respect for anyone who's served in any branch of the armed forces.

Welcome to the board, man!!! You talk about jumping in head-first!!!
Since we can't type about the Flames, Canucks, Oilers, Flyers, or any of the others... might just as well hang here (so to speak).

I wish I'd discovered kilts at an earlier age. I ordered my first just before my 60th birthday. I kind of doubt that I would have worn one at your age though, that would have been around 1957. Back then it was rare to see a woman in any kind of pants, and in particular any kind of jeans, so you can guess how a 14 year old boy would have been received if he showed up somewhere in a kilt. I congratulate you on your courage. You are a kilt ambassador to the younger generations, and that in my opinion is where kilt wearing has to be accepted and grow. Oh, I forgot to add, check out all of the sponsors and the kilt makers who post here. They have some really nice kilts available at much lower prices than you (or I ) paid for that first one.

Careful...best to stick to kilts and awa' frae politics. Some people on this board might not agree with your last statement about one of the US Presidential candidates.
Kilts are more fun than politics anyway...Besides, the Poles have the best way...they have the Beer Lover's Party -- they believe that all of the country's problems can be solved over a good beer in a pub & the civilised discussion that the atomsphere produces...anyone want to join me in that party?
Cheers,

Hopefully all of the madness (other than we mad, excuse me, eccentric kilt wearers) in the US will be over by tommorow night, and we can all get on with the importannt things in life, namely kilts. As for getting our new member here, started drinking, well, lets wait about another 7 years, and if I am still around, Ill be happy to buy him his first pint and toast his courage.

I agree with JohnAllen, I too am a navy vet, but the US Marines are one of the main reasons why this country is still free and strong. I have a great deal of respect for them, and I lost several good friends (some, but not all marines) during the unpleasantness that took place back in the 60s (Nam)

Just a question. Most of the guys here, me included are older (well you might even call me ancient at 61 years old), so we never had to deal with this aspect. We say a lot about peoples reactions, but in your case, how do your parennts feel about you wearing kilts?

Although my welcome comes late allow me to add it to the list. I am pleased to see someone of your age finding the sanity of the kilt. I think with your attitude and maturity you won't be alone in wearing the kilt for very long. 8) (The kilt's an infectous disease; one that is good for you).
Enjoy the breeze twixt the knees lad!

May all your blessings be the ones you want and your friends many and true.

I have a colleague at work who is around our age (late 50s) who was brought up in Scotland and he has told me that when he was young all the boys wore kilts to school. I am somewhat envious.
As others have said, it's so good to see someone young on the board (my belated welcome) as it appears that most are like myself who did not discover the pleasures of wearing a kilt until late in life.
