If You Could Have Just One Pair Of Hose

I can't speak for how things might be in Scotland, but I have long maintained that even a lurking XMarks member probably knows more about kilts and kilting than 99% of the world's population, and more relevantly, represent the 1% that actually cares!

Or more simply put, if I go out wearing (any given tartan kilt), I will probably get no fewer compliments wearing white hose than I would with any other colour. The number of people who will call me out for wearing white hose? 0. (Unless I happen to meet another XMarks member or post photos up on here). The only existential angst that must then be resolved, is for whom do we wear our kilt/hose? For ourselves? For the casual public observer? Or the other members of this forum?

Regardless of the answer, for me anyway, I would at least try to make sure that my white hose would be really nice and fancy white hose! :-)

I sincerely hope that everyone keeps their thoughts to themselves about the style/colour of kilt hose in public. However, the question was asked and views volunteered on a slightly more discreet medium of a kilt website where minute details can be discussed sensibly and of course white hose are a legitimate option open to us all. Personally though, I am not at all sure that if only ONE pair of hose---as per the actual question----- were to be the only option then white, is not the best choice available from a practical, imaginative, or aesthetic standpoint . Each to their own.

If I only had one kilt and could only have one pair of hose, then matching tartan without question. However, that is not a very economical option.

In terms of frequency of wear, dark/bottle green gets worn more than any other colour. It works with all of my kilts and given the prominance of green in so many tartans, it makes a good universal choice. Black is a good default as well and works for both day and evening wear. There is a good reason why so many pipe bands wear black hose.

I have a pair of off-white hose in the bottom of a drawer somewhere. Can't remember the last time they were worn. However, don't care to get between Jock Scot and CDNSushi on this one.

I have to admit there are two pIr that see the most use, lovat blue and my bottle green pair, I always see the "natural" off white ones on special, I may snap up a few just to try dying them, I'd like a dark mustard pair but the only ones I've found in that shade are crazy expensive.

I suppose my answer to my own question would be bottle green or lovat blue in the best hose ones budget allows.

GrainReaper...I seem to recall from a previous post of yours that you are somewhat colour blind, so perhaps they look different to you than to others.

That is correct, I'm colorblind, most things I see I'm sure are quite different than what others see, I have often wondered what the world looks like to a normal vision person, being able to see a difference between blue and purple, green from brown, colors like khaki and bison tend to look to be like grey.

I wear mine most of the time and they are still good.
