Fiačee said no to the kilt. So, vest, tie, pocket puff etc would have been the plan. However, here's the rub, she is accessorizing with pink and doesn't want me to clash. So what I'm thinking is Scotland the Brave tartan vest or tie and puff with the Stewart swatch inside. Only I will know it's over my heart.
Nice to be able to make an informed decision!

Wow! That is impressive. You've a lot to be proud of. You joke but at the same time show a lot of respect for your wife. That is key isn't it? Humor, respect, honesty=happiness

In you mean INformed, my fiancée is aware of my plan and how much Mrs. Stewart means to me. Color issue be damned. Like Father Bill points out, it's about families and their union. Mrs. Stewart needs to be with me and will be represented at our wedding. She is what a Grandmother should be. She will still be there to share our first dance.

    Spuggs:

I was browsing this thread and following some of the suggestions. I know Stillwater Kilts (www.store.stillwaterkilts.com) has Royal Stewart in pocket squares ($3.75) and ties ($11.00) listed on their website. The material is acrylic and I have found their kilts to be good value for the money and they are very fast for delivery. If you want a little color and a bit of Royal Stewart over your heart, these might be an option for you. Best of luck.

    Spuggs,

Whatever you decide on, best of luck to you, and we wish you a wonderful life together!

That said, my wife was originally 50/50 on the idea of my being in a kilt, and was not totally sure about my ability to get her father in a kilt - something we decided was going to be a worth-while challenge. We agreed that if I can get her father in a kilt, that I can be in a kilt. She was doubtful he'd ever agree to ever wear one, and especially not at his only daughter's wedding! (Keep in mind - I'm Chinese, she's the MacDonald.)

Her family loves their Scottish heritage, but no-one in the family has ever worn a kilt, much less own one. They have tons of MacDonald tartan stuff, from waistcoats, ties, scarfs, to tams... but no kilt. So long story short, since my wife was to be in traditional Chinese outfit for parts of the wedding processes, I was somehow able to convince her dad that we should wear kilts during the western parts of the ceremony. He agreed, we took measurements, and had our kilts made.

She had never regretted making the deal (even though I don't think she ever expected it to go the way it did!). She loves all our wedding pictures, and loved seeing me in a kilt at the wedding, and was so proud of her dad in a kilt too. And now, her dad has this little excitement every time a Burn's night or a highland games comes around, and he could wear his kilt (but not "bold" enough to be unconventional and wear it out without an "event").

So in the end, it was all great, but you HAVE to make sure your bride is onboard. My wife eventually snuck a pair of MacDonald tartan heels in under the dress as well!

And god bless her, she wore her Chinese traditional wedding garment proudly as well.

That is really so beautiful to hear. Thank you for sharing. Those photos are fantastic. You two look so good together. Nice that you honoured both of your heritages. Good thing she warmed up to the idea. It was well worth it.

My fianćee and I spoke more about things and she seems dead set on a traditional suit/tux and gown garb wedding. She is much more open for the engagement pictures. I never knew there was such a thing as engagement pictures. Sheesh.

It really is her day. Sure I'm an equal part, however, I will respect whatever she chooses. This is a once and forever event.

    Hu, once again, wow. Impressive.

    Spuggs,

Sound like you guys are working to a possible solution of kilt in the engagement pics and tux at the wedding! It's truly wonderful what you're doing for your grandma.

Best of luck to you both, and congrats on the engagement!! :-)

    Thanks Hu.

Mrs. Stewart may not have been my bio Grandmother but she was much more. Genetics don't necessarily make a Grandparent, but this woman was something else.

I'm confident things will fall together and be a very special day.
