Very nice pictures indeed Hamish, as always. The Kilt suit looks splended with the backdrop of all that beautiful art. What a very nice place to be spending some of your days. Next time I am over in the U.K. I will have to make it on my list of things to do. I would love a walk through the house with the Kilted Legend. So if that would be something that could be aranged it would be lovely. I am not just sure when I will be in the U.K. next but I will let you know well in advance.
Like I said before, very nice pictures Ham.
Cheers!

Hmmm, have to work on the fashion sense here. Always, Always brown shoes with a blue suit, never black. :o Shouldn't make any difference if the suit includes a kilt.
Great picutres Ham!!

Hi Graham and Mike,
Brown shoes? Why not? I could hardly wear black shoes with a brown sporran and brown belt, now could I?
Actually, I wear brown OR black accessories with this suit. All black tends to be rather formal and, since Petworth is a Country House, I usually opt for the slightly less formal pigskin brown when on duty there - but always with a tie! That one is my Clan Gunn tie.
Thank you Graham for picking on me about this, but brown is perfectly acceptable with blue, as long as the shirt and hose tone with the brown.

Hi Andrew,
It would be my pleasure to show you around Petworth House -
http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/places/petworth/
that goes for any other kilted brethren visiting the area too. Just get in touch with me as soon as you know the date yourself (lycrakilt@aol.com).
Bear in mind though, that the house is open only from March to October each year, and not on Thursdays or Fridays unless something special is taking place. We closed to the public on Sunday and re-open on March 19th 2005. Try to choose days other than Tuesdays for a proposed visit because that is usually my duty day and when on duty I cannot leave my room!
I wait to hear from you..........

Graham asked: I really cannot understand why all the male volunteers should not wear kilts, you look very much the part! Just one small thing surprised me....brown shoes??
It is undoubtedly a great look. That would make for a fairly pricy uniform, though, so I suspect that the cost could have something to do with it. As for pairing brown and blue, I really like the brown accessories paired with blue or green jacket or waistcoat.
Ham answered: Thank you Graham for picking on me about this, but brown is perfectly acceptable with blue, as long as the shirt and hose tone with the brown.
Here is a pic from the Kinloch Anderson site showing a gent with blue day jacket, brown sporran and belt with brass buckle:

Same guy, same accessories, slightly different look:

Perhaps I should point out that volunteer Stewards, working for The National Trust, do not wear uniforms. We are expected to dress smartly and appropriately to our surroundings - and wear a tie (no problem, I've worn ties all my life). We each wear a badge showing our name, otherwise we wear what we want.
Just think, Graham, if all the male Stewards wore kilts I'd no longer be unique (well, not quite as unique as I am at present!)
