My Latest Dirk/Sgian project (Slight Redux).
Here is one of my latest projects. I completely hand made the crown stag dirk and sgian awhile back (the dirk blade is made from an old carbon steel file), but I made a new leather sheath and scabbard for them a few days ago, thus my reposting this. I was going for a more vintage, hunting style for daytime wear:

Thanks my fellow Sinclair. You will "forgive" the Sutherland tartan background, but my family tree teems in contradictions, including both Sinclair AND Sutherland ancestry to name but two.

Nice indeed. I see how the sgian fits snuggly against the leg, but how far out does the butt of the dirk lean away from the belt? I'm trying to do calculations based on the shadow in the photo. Would 1 and 1/4 inch be near the correct answer?

No more than any frogged dirk or 19th C. bayonet does. That is, a bayonet that is suspended from the waist belt, and not a shoulder belt, mind you. Less than an inch for certain while standing erect.

Here is a quick sketch of how I attached the pommel disk I made for the Sgian, to answer Rebelrousers PM inquiry:

Very nice job on everything, Mike. I really like the dirk sheath, beautiful form and the chape looks great. Well done!
