Another To Throw In The Mix

Robert Pel of RKilts makes a wonderful kilt. It costs a bit more than the other kilts mentioned here but, it is hand made and the quality is superior. It is made of hemp. I do do not have the black but I do have the blue and green. Robert also is a really standup guy and his customer service is excellent.

P.S. I know you were looking for a budget kilt but sometimes in retrospect it worth going for a life long kilt. I personally set aside "kilt money" over several months instead of an immediate purchase.

Unfortunately, all I can remember about the source of my black kilt is that it came direct from Pakistan and I bought it on eBay. It seems to be acryllic (described as 'acryllic wool', but I'm not sure what that really means, blend or just acryllic?) and yet appears to contain about as many yards of fabric as a traditional 'tank'. It only cost me $30 dollars, which was a bargain even with another $30 to airmail it from Pakistan.

While I appreciate that the decision has been made, I have to agree with seanachie. I do, in fact have one of Robert's black hemp, Mark V kilts:
