I'll be there as well.
I too, got the call from the Stagecoach Inn, and made reservations at the Holiday Inn.
I'm glad they're renovating the Stagecoach Inn... That place was probably great back in the '60s, but has been sorely in need of renovation for some time.

Can anyone tell me what all happens at this festival? What are the tickets for? What is this festival for?

Salado Games
Best to check out their web site: www.saladoscottishfestival.com
Last year was kind of a bust - there was no BEER! But the previous years were quite good with athletics, dancing and pipe competitions, several vendors and BEER! There are also numerous clan tents.

And clan tents, pipe band competitions, Scottish dance competitions.
All of the proceeds go to support the Central Texas Area Museum and the Scot Shop.
Even if there isn't beer, it is possible to get a wee dram from some of the clan tents if you ask nicely.

Clan Tents
I have never been to a Highland Games and Festival. I am planning on making it to this one.
Can anyone tell me if the clan tents sell any wares of their clan? And what sort of things do they have available? My wife and I were wondering if there will be any scarfs or fabric that we can buy?
Also, do they have any genealogy help at the tents?
Thanks in advance for your help.

I would not expect the clan tents to have anything to sell. They may be able to help you some with genealogy in their clan. There will be merchants with items for sale - kilts, accessories, etc..

Some games allow the clans to sell clan specific items, but they don't want clan tents competing with the merchants as the merchants pay a lot more to be there. There should be a good group of merchants at this game, so I'm sure you will find something.
Of course Salado is a very artsy little town, so your wife may want to spend another day or so shopping there. My wife usually takes off on Saturday afternoon to hit a few of her favorite stores while we're there.
Midland is a ways to drive. If you are looking for lodging (and if Salado is booked), you might try Belton, TX as it is very close.
You might want to bring some lawn chairs so you can watch the games, the dance competition, or the pipe/drum competition without having to stand.
Several xmarkers will have clan tents there too, so feel free to come by and visit. We usually try to get a group picture on Saturday afternoon, usually around 1-2pm so I hope you will be around then.

Thanks bdkilted, it's nice to know that there will merchants there selling clan specific items. That is definitely one thing we are looking for. I will also make sure to bring lawn chairs to watch everything.
Thanks for the notice on lodging, but my youngest daughter is going to Truitt Seminary at Baylor there in Waco and we are planning on staying with her.
What sort of favorite stores does your wife like? Maybe the wives can go together.
Thanks also for the heads up on the group photo. That would be awesome.
