I love that attitude! Wish I could do that 7 days a week.

And 12 months a year. Sadly the UK weather rarely allows for either and if we are lucky maybe 5 months out of 12 it is warm enough some of the time.

Yep, in a more casual context I typically forego everything but elastic hose garters, and a plain knockaround sporran (which usually lives on its leather strap, so that's also one less thing to fiddle with when getting dressed.) If not wearing a waistcoat I'll usually thrown on a regular belt, but that doesn't take any more time than it does if wearing pants.

Of course, when dressed like this I always seem to get someone from the kilt police asking "Where's your kilt pin! Why don't you have a dagger in your sock! Where's those flashy things on your socks!"

I almost never wear a belt or kilt pin, when dressed for piping gigs or what have you. As a piper I normally only wear Highland Dress when playing the pipes. I don't really do "casual kilting".

But for sure one of the reasons I think twice about travelling with kilts is the precious room all the stuff takes up. With size 15 feet bringing a dedicated pair of shoes would take up half my total room! I almost always travel with a single rolling carry-on size case. So when I travel my only shoes are the ones on my feet.

Yes even without dedicated shoes the kilt, sporran, and hose take up a load of space. I go back to visit family once a year, and usually fit in a Highland Games, and I bring the minimum amount of kit for my sort of kilting: kilt, sporran, hose, flashes, waistcoat, shirt, tie.

I don't bother with the pin. I forge chain straps for the nice leather strap. I don't use flash. So, it's just the kilt, hose, belt, and sporran.

Exactly. In fact today is "casual Friday" so a MacDonald T, Kilt, belt, hose, boots and sporran. There's no need to do more than you feel like doing. Now if I go out for supper tonight I might add flash, skein do, nicer shoes and a collared shirt. But, not necessarily.

Much as I really enjoy being kilted and love to take a kilt away with me to wear when I'm on holiday, I do find it's a bit of a pain with all the added bits that are needed that go with the kilt, even when wearing it casually. It's not just the kilt, but the belt, sporran, chain, pin, etc. I realise this is all part of being kilted and wouldn't want it any other way, but it can be a bit trying at times to remember all the 'extras' that are part and parcel of kilt wearing

As long as your kilt (and accessories) aren't too heavy, you won't be stung by EasyJet for exceeding their weight limits for luggage as was I €65 poorer, I got my kilt (cheap PV, sporran & strap, socks) out of the UK, but had to leave the kilt in Faro, Portugal on my return (too much shopping and gifts ), but treated myself to a new kilt online which I collect from the post office today

I just substituted the kilt for shorts and kept it very casual (even forgoing kilt hose and wearing just sandals) as it is very hot out there

I'm ahead of you there, here's my kilt in its roll (along with my shorts clad hairy knees) all packed and ready to go. Just sitting now in Starbucks before getting the train (and making use of the free wi-fi)
