Bsspoke kilt advce
Weather Patchy yesterday. Had two choices. Seven yard twelve ounce or eight yard eight ounce .This is Lidl £30 Burns Night Cheapy....Will talk about this on another post.
Out the house 0630 with red sky at morning ,shepherds warning and messengers in the sky.It is going to blow...somewhen.
Bit cool in in shirt and Argyll jacket.
Two hours on bus .Yeh weather still OK. Down St Ives..... top Cornish tourist beach and Harbour.
Round harbour looking for contact. done deal on Sarong from Java. Wind starting to pick up.
Went into the museum.Good for a laugh.Go to a local museum and talk about your own village... good stuff....You may have heard of me speak of the Cornish Kilt Flying Championships. This was getting serious.....Sea was starting to break white caps. Had to go to local lookout for some paperwork.
Wind twenty to twenty five knots. Sort of stuff which capsizes sailing dingies.
By keeping my hands on the back of my hips I can stop this Kilt flying.......Got back down the harbour out of the wind and the length of cloth stalled my kilt and every one said how smart I looked.
Had to get a bus connection... Half an hour later on other side of coast...Temperature had dropped.. really cold......Had to go for tactical move to a with draws situation. Warm and comfortable at last. This was five o'clock weather which
felt like seven o'clock weather.
By putting an extra garment on I had made this light weight kilt habitable. This kilt is the same gross weight as my 12oz 7yarder. but blows about more the wind. I would not have expected to have any trouble with my twelve once which I have worn for thirty five years.
By standing out of the wind that 8 oz looked smart. If I can just hold this kilt down I can keep the Up Kilt holiday potographers at bay.
If I do not give them time to check out a good shot they stay out of my way.
I had a long chat with a full time kiltie in Scotland.. His recomendation for the traditional winter is Eight Yard Sixteen Ounce. Hem at the top of the knee cap. Ordered mine from a Cornish Kilt maker last week. Two thirds of the of the price of a Kilt made in Scotland in my rare clan tartan. Should be a real tank. I would expect this Kilt to last a hundred years. I will be wearing this traditional Kilt with just a winter over jacket and I trust that the Traditional wearing of this Traditional Kilt will meet with the approval of the imaginary Sargent Major..................Roderick
