It must be the time of year for it. I was walking in a crosswalk on the campus at University of Oregon this week when some young guys yelled "Nice skirt (insert homophobic slur here)". I stopped, looked at them and said, "Why thank you it is rather nice, but gentlemen this is a kilt not a skirt and yes I am gay but sorry I am already taken." I then finished crossing the street and standing on the corner was the sweetest grey haired lady who was holding her hand in front of her face trying not to bust out laughing. As we waiting to cross the next street she turned to me and said, "Your right is it rather nice." gave me a wink and went on her way.

Well I'm not going to stop wearing kilts because of it. I was always taught that if you didn't like something about somebody whether it be their clothing or whatever you kept it to yourself. I might think it but I keep my mouth shut. I was just dumbfounded by what happened. I have heard children snigger but that is to be expected, I mean they're children. A grown man however is not really expected. There was probably some alcohol involved most likely. Thank you for your comments and maybe nothing will happen like happened at the gas station as posted above.
Kilt on.

in my one year of kilt wearing, normally every time i'm out in it, mostly kids, chavs or drunks, so I pay no mind to it, the positive tends to out weigh the bad

I wear a kilt most of the time outside of work. I don’t recall having anything negative directed at me. I have heard negative comments said behind my back. Not sure if they intended their comments to be heard by me or not. The worst case was coming out of a performance by the Dayton Philharmonic. I have season tickets for their “pop” series performance. On occasion I will attend one of the “rock” series performances. At the pop series I always get positive comments. People even come up to me to talk about the kilt. The rock series is where I have heard negative comments. Just a different clientele attending the rock series than the pop series. The worst one was leaving one of the performances. I was crossing the street with a large number of other attendees walking back to the parking garage. I heard a younger man speaking very loudly and negatively about my kilt. He was talking to the lady he was with. I just ignored him. To me it appeared his male ego was so fragile that I think he was afraid his lady friend would make a positive comment about the kilt . So he had to make sure he mouthed off to make sure that did not happen. I felt rather sorry for the lady that she had such a lousy date for the evening.

Charles, I think one has to assess if it is worth wasting time replying some jerks and freaks. Try giving people two chances at
living in the real world . One chap said;"A Kiltie" I said " ye alright the noo eh, " He replied; "where ye from Laddie ?,
Ye no local. I dmitted that I lived 20 miles up the road and had to get a visa to come to town.

There's a couple here who used to go around performing at Irish and Scottish festivals and events. They both played harp and sung. The guy was fluent in Welsh, Irish, and Scottish Gaelic, his wife could certainly sing in those languages.
Well, they were performing at a Clans Of The Highlands event, singing songs in Scottish Gaelic, and some ignorant brute runs up to them and starts yelling at them to stop singing in Arabic. The eejit was of Scottish Highland descent and was wearing a kilt at the time!
That is unbelievable
The Kilt is my delight !
