We just got blasted with a new record snowfall for this date in Michigan. I have 13 inches in my home town, three times the previous record. Also, the temperature dropped 50 degrees in a few days. I had theater tickets last night and the show got cancelled.

The first nice day in the West of Ireland I can remember in weeks; sunny and dry. I have just been for a walk on the beach.

The wind dropped to just sailing conditions, not that that bothered me, I was on rescue boat duties. But we had alternate rain, sun ,hail and sleet. Which did bother me in a open dory. Even though I was wearing full seagoing water proofs and boots after six hour from putting the bouys in to recovering them I was freezing.
So I've just got home and had a long soak in the bath,..

I mounded up heavy slush to hold my mailbox up until I can make repairs in a few days when this white mess melts away. The postman spun out yesterday on his route, knocked a mailbox off its post. I had a laugh and helped fix it with the neighbor

Melbourne ever changing
This was the view at 6am on the way to work
I think it will be very different when I'm on my way home.

The Q .... I really need an extra safety boat operator (one is heading to Manchester).... Come down here!
Apologies... I have no idea why the iPad keeps putting pictures upside down? It only happens on Xmarks. (I gave up after 3 attempts)

Saturday morning at approx 3am there was a good 2-3" of snow- rare for Sheffield in November. By 9 it had mostly melted, but there was still some ice and it was very cold. Most snow here falls in early February and it's not unusual to get some on my birthday!

Late to the party here, but for cause. On the 17th of this month, we had a bit of a wind storm. The top gusts were clocked at 71 mph, just a tick off of hurricane force, with sustained winds in the 40's. After our dry summer and a wee bit of rain early in the month, we were primed for trouble. Hundreds of trees in town were uprooted or snapped off above the ground, power poles snapped in half and all the power infrastructure came down. Add onto that weather that came down into the 20 degree F range and, well, it was a right mess. My power came back on yesterday (the 23rd of November) and my battery-powered thermostat in the main room was registering an indoor temp of 40 degrees F. We're blessed to be back with light and heat and only lost a bit of food in the freezer. Small things. I pray for those whose homes were damaged or destroyed and two people lost their lives, so I can live with some discomfort. It's amazing how a small thing like sleeping in a warm room can make you feel so much better. Living in mid-19th century conditions leaves a lot to be desired from a softy like me. Today it's in the low 30's F and we have our first snow of the season--maybe two inches. A pleasure to admire it from inside a heated, snug abode. Everyone stay safe out there and I am thankful for the small things.
