To my colorblind eye the top pic (pleated to the brown stripe) doesn't look quite as nice as the bottom pic (pleated to the brown stripe)
As others have mentioned, the only opinion that counts is your missus'
Because admiring your own hind end requires twisting around which untucks your shirt (not a good look) or staring at your rump in a mirror (too vain) I would let your wife decide the pleating and then you better get to work, lots of sewing needs to be done!
