Julia,
Did you take a trip on the newly-rebuilt Borders railway campaigned for by Madge ELLIOT ?

It was really great to meet you Julia.
Many thanks indeed for posting these lovely photos.
All places I know well and indeed I have been privileged to visit those castles and abbeys and have posted photos of them here in the past in an effort to persuade more of our members to visit the beautiful Scottish Borders, with its rich history.
Not being an Elliot, the one exception which I have never been inside is Redheugh. I know it well from the outside as a bus route which I often drive passes along the other side of the Hermitage Water and at this time of year when the trees are bare Redheugh is visible from the road, indeed I passed by Redheugh several times yesterday on my journeys between Hawick and Newcastleton.
I spent thirty five years earning good money in the legal profession but now I am far happier with the modest pay of a bus driver being privileged to drive passengers around the Border country.

On a slightly different tack, don't forget the Jim Clark museum in Duns if you are visiting the Border country.
If you are going to do it, do it in a kilt!

I DID actually make it to Duns, but got into town In time to see a Scocha gig at 7:30 , stayed over night , and breezed out of town early the next morning . Although, I did make it up to Duns law. I'll have to make sure to come back

I can't say I blame you in the least. It's hard to imagine a lovelier way to spend your day than looking out your window to those views. I'll never forget on day 2 in Scotland , taking the bus from Edinburgh to Peebles , and getting my first glimpse of the beautiful rolling hills , I knew it was a place I would love forever.
And every chance I have to talk to someone about my trip, I make sure they understand how special the Borders area really is, and what they Are missing by passing it by.

Wonderful pictures!! It brings back many memories from my trip to Scotland, summer 2013. Unfortunately, I did not make the border area. However, I had the pleasure of visiting Dunfermline and all it had to offer....the abbey, Andrew Carnegie museum and birthplace, and the wonderful gardens across from the abbey. Thanks for sharing!

Some excellent photos. I love the beauty and the history of the Borders.
By chance were you able to see Margaret while at Redheugh?

Sir William, unfortunately I did not get to meet Margaret this time as she was away in Stockholm . A friend from Scotland had made the arrangements so We were able to get in by finding the gardener . I will be there for the 2017 clan gathering though
