    barber's gift

Instead of a pinch of snuff, I gave the barber a bottle of Famous Grouse. I'd played a joke on him, gave him some Laphroiag. The blend will probably work better. Of course, I got another bottle to give away.

The wife gave me a bottle of The Glenlivet 21 year old for the anniversary of our church wedding. I tricked her into marring me twice, civil wedding in Colombia and a full Catholic/Military ceremony a couple of years later!

I opened it Saturday and we shared a dram (or two). It is nectar from the heavens.

I see some talking about Jura. I have a few different bottles of Jura and it is a good dram. I would not put it as a special occasion dram, but it is quite drinkable and can be shared with friends.

I am really starting to appreciate the peaty malts. Lagavulin 16 and Ardbeg Uigeadail are two that I have been enjoying lately.

Wish I knew what I did to deserve this, so I could do it again.

Because of the recent and dramatic deterioration in the quality of the young Islay Malts (my last bottles of Ardbeg 10 Year, Islay Storm and Finlaggan Old Reserve all tasted like petrol) I've pivoted towards Bourbons lately, with surprisingly pleasing results, the latest being Buffalo Trace. Seriously Good Stuff, with little of the--to my palate--sourness of whiskies with a mostly corn mash bill, and quite a few flavor notes similar to barley Malt Scotch. It reminds me of Old Rip Van Winkle 10-Year which, not surprisingly, is produced by the same distillery. I'll definitely be drinking more of this, and will probably next try Stranahan's Colorado Whiskey.

In the meantime, I'm into my very first bottle of Glenmorangie 10 Year--no complaints there!

Happy New Year To All My Kilted Brethren!

Santa and friends were very kind

Also not sure what I did to deserve the bevy of 12 year olds I received for Christmas, but it would appear that I will be stocked for some time:

    Macallans 12
    Glen Morangie 12
    The Glenlivet 12
    Glen Moray 12
    Aberlour 12

Will be sharing the Macallans with father and brothers at New Years.

    Happy New Years all,

    David

Balblair 12, a nice spicey fullbodied dram.

Glenmorangie Tusail, a belated 10th anniversary gift from my scotch loving wife. Nice, sweet, pleasant with just the right amount of bite. That description would also be appropriate for the whisky, too.
