gCaptain is a great forum- I'm scoping it out almost as much as XMTS Yeah, the North Sea is no joke! This here in the GoM is just worrisome in Hurricane Season. The rest is just enough to let you know that you didn't remember to lash your gear securely. Worst weather/seas I have ever seen was in Lake Michigan.

Still raining here - this morning it decided to rain harder than usual - not that I took it personally, but I was out in it.

It is at such times that I take comfort in owning a Tilley hat - they are unsinkable.

I see that problems arising from the erosion of various river banks are increasing significantly, and I suspect that there will need to be a lot of work, and even more thought. put into the management of waterways and flloodplains in future.

Aye, the Tilley hats sure beat having to deal with rain drops on our spectacles.

Pants is only a present tense verb here. I once panted, but it's all cool now.

Coldest day of the season so far here in MD. 16F for a low tonight means I've got the woodstove going strong.

The first of 4 "El Nino, Parade of Storms" came through last night. Swept of about 1 cm of snow off of the walkways and my truck windows, so the sun can heat the cab, in my USA Casual PV and thin long sleeve shirt. Stayed plenty warm. Seems sweeping snow keeps me warmer than shoveling. -1C and calm.

I haven't seen it, but he says they don't even sell things like that down here.
    Richard:

Yep, we do get snow here in Washington state. The state has a mountain range (the Cascades) running North-South through the middle of the state. West part of the state, near the ocean (think Seattle) has a moderate climate and plenty of rain in winter. The occasional snow that falls causes mass hysteria and cars abandoned on the freeways and roads. The eastern half of the state has colder, more continental weather and we get snow regularly. Here in Spokane, near the Idaho border, my home is at about 2,000 feet and we are currently at 18 inches of snow since mid-December. Lowest temp in the last month was about 4 degrees F on New Year's Eve. My midnight rendition of Auld Lang Syne was quiet brief. For your son: chains are good, so are Sorels for the feet, a snowblower or shovel for the walks and driveway and cold weather gear gets good seasonal use. I quite liked your sunset photo early in this thread; I could take a couple of days of warm and palm trees.

    Thank you, Kanati.
This is really an extended demonstration of what a drone camera can do but it shows something of Upper Deeside in winter with Creag nam Ban behind Abergeldie Castle and the road to Braemar opposite the Castle currently washed away.
