    Promotion = New Kilts

    Two days after being told "this is your last kilt for a while," (which reminds me, I need to post that story as well...) my fiancée and I were promoted to the grade 5 band (me on pipes and her on tenor drums). With this comes parades and competitions, so.... you guessed it.... new kilts!

    How nice that a promotion brings a new kilt into your wardrobe.

    I wish I could get a new kilt on talent. Mine come the old fashion way; scraping coins together and begging the wife.

    I bought myself one for my birthday and when it showed up, it was a surprise for both of us! That is when I was told "this is your last kilt for a while." Well, if the band says "you need to wear this to play with us," well, we're simply going to need to get it. Come on, she looks happy, doesn't she?!?

    My wife is an enabler. Most of my kilt purchases were brought on by her. Im cheap...she loves me in a kilt. Im not bragging, i assumed most wives would be enablers where kilts are concerned.

    That is fantastic to hear. For what it's worth, I think any significant other who is anywhere above "ok with you wearing the kilt" is pretty good. I don't wear mine all that often outside of piping, but I can't tell you how many friends tell me their wifes/gfs would never let them wear a kilt out. One of my best friends, who was an avid kilt wearer, got married, and I haven't seen his kilts since...

    For me, it was more of a "you have other things you need to use that money for." She was correct too - that purchase definitely is a roadblock on the path to new pipes.

    My wife and I are also just starting out in pipe bands 2 actually. I'm a piper
    and she's a tenor drummer. I have been issued a kilt (ancient Gordon) for one band
    but she has yet to be kitted out.
    I'm just trying to be the person my dog thinks I am.

    Funny, we are the same.

    I've only took up piping 2 years ago, and got on pipes ~1 year ago, so I'm excited to get the call up.

    Where we are, everyone seems to practice Thursday nights, otherwise I would love to be able to get as much teaching in as possible.

    We are very lucky that one band practices on Tuesday evening and the other on Wednesday evening. Since I'm only playing in Tuesday's band there haven't been any conflicts of time but I'm told I'm expected to qualify for Wednesday's band soon. That said I did end up playing in a parade that both bands were in. Mrs. Crash is progressing so quickly she will be well into both bands before me.
