    Borders Tailors

    Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone has had any experience of Richard Mackay's work. I received a good recommendation from a friend but would love to see some pictures if anyone has anything made by him.

    Many thanks!

Many thanks. As well as Richard Mackay I was recommended Caledonia in Abernethy. I need a tailor that can make a rather special kilt jacket order and they are top of the list. Any tips on them also much appreciated.

Sorry, don't know them either but a quick look at their website doesn't inspire me much. There's nothing that suggests that they do good bespoke work.

Here's my bespoke jacket and waistcoat made by Humes last year.

Looks very smart. I agree about the website but I was given the tip by a Scots DG officer and a friend whose advice I trust greatly. How long did Humes take to make something that wasn't made to measure?

If it wasn't made to measure then it would be off-the-shelf and therefore available immediately. My jacket was made to measure, it took about 8 weeks (including Christmas.

When I was on the staff at 51 (Highland) Bde I designed the Bde Tweed and Humes did all the outfits for the HQ Officers and did a fantastic job. I've used them ever since.
