I suppose it depends on what type of vehicle you are sitting in. For something low slung that is probably a good idea. I however drive a Ford F150, so one foot goes up then my seat and then the my other foot. If the pleats are really messed up, I will support myself on my feet and shoulders and smooth the pleats under me.
