I can't say it any better than that... about the shirt.

It would be interesting to find out what his concept of "the tradition" is.

I'm guessing it's a blend of lack of information, misinformation, and jingoism.

"The tradition" has usually borrowed the prevailing English/European fashion in shirts, neckwear, and jackets (the latter often being shortened).

If we were going to do another Duke Kahanamoku H'Island Games at Shaffer Park this June, I'd invite you.

But then, we're being awfully silly, here. Oops, I forgot to vote.

You pull it off, mostly because both the shirt & the kilt are in the same color family.

I have been told that I managed to rock a Hawaiian shirt worn with a black Utilikilt mocker, and with other solid tone kilts. I'm not so sure that a bright kilt with a mismatched color palette for the shirt would do as well.

Out of 68 voters, 18 felt the outfit didn't not work and the remainder felt it did (with varying degrees of enthusiasm).

I appreciated the comments from those that wanted to explain why it did or didn't work for them.

Style is a very personal thing. It is worth exploring different ideas and looks to find combinations that are comfortable and best represent yourself. The Hawaiian outfit is not one I wear often, but I do wear it and it works for me. Don't be afraid to occasionally try something new.

Thanks to all those that participated in the poll and discussion.

    Cheers

I think a Hawaiian shirt with a khaki utility kilt would work just fine.
